In August 2020 work began on the new 63km trail extension to the Clutha Gold Trail, it is designed for cyclists and would follow a "grade 2 easy" route providing riders with "variety and interest", between Lawrence and Waihola.
The trail already runs for 73km from Lawrence to Roxburgh (also at grade 2), where it joins a further trail network extending into Central Otago.
The trust estimated eventual use of the extension could be as high as 15,000 riders a year and it is due to open 2022.
I have been looking at the new sections of trails as they have been constructed and thinking these need some geocaches. I have made a start but hope others will join in the fun.
There are rows of apple trees planted here and so it will fuel may cyclists in the future coming through here in autumn.
No pens or pencils placed in container at time due to size. Photo logs are not acceptable substitutes and these logs will be deleted.
