Geocache Description:

Welcome to the 12 Days of Cachemas, brought to you by the Omaha Elves!

The Elves will publish 13 caches all over the Omaha metro area, one on each day from December 13-24, with the finale publishing on Jan. 2. This will give everyone extra time to search out the 12 Cachemas before the final publishes. You can expect a variety of types of hides, and keep in mind that the caches will publish at different times of the day. Some will be more challenging than others, but none will be higher than 2.5 in D or T.

This year it’s all about “Thank you, Cache Owners!” This game wouldn’t exist without the time, energy, creativity, and resources donated by cache owners. We elves want to thank some local COs for making geocaching in the Omaha area fun for the rest of us.

These caches will each contain an FTF prize in the shape of a collectible Christmas ornament. If you get an FTF and collect the ornament and get another FTF on another day, you can decide to leave the ornament for the STF or take it for yourself. The spirit of Christmas says let another geocacher have the joy of an ornament.

The object of the game is to get the coordinates to the final (13th) cache, which will be published on Jan. 2. Caches 1-12 will hold (taped to the lid) one digit of the coords to the 13th cache, which will be a puzzle.

There will be a FTF and STF prize in the final.

Local cacher stargazingwoman is a Benchmark aficionada. There's a benchmark a short drive away to the northeast, but when you get to DGZ, you're looking for what looks like the remains of a beaver-built structure of some sort. (We elves are not well-versed as to the building habits of local small mammals.) The cache is tucked snugly into one of the sides of the structure. Please replace it in this way so that it's not discovered by muggles!

When you get to posted coordinates, you'll notice how close to the water it is. Considering the beacon, how damp and sparsely-covered the ground is near DGZ, and how low water levels are in this area right now, we suspect this area will be wetter in the spring. That's why the "wading" attribute has been selected.

This area is open from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM - no night caching!

Merry Cachemas from the Omaha Elves!
