Janet is a big fan of George Woodruffe Goyder. He was a very impressive man.
George Woodroffe Goyder (1826-1898), surveyor-general, was born in 1826 in England. In Glasgow h\e studied surveying and was articled to a railway engineer. He migrated to Sydney in 1848. After three years he settled in Adelaide.
He was responsible for Goyder's line and has a number of geological features named after him. Mt Woodruffe is the tallest mountain in SA. And there were two rivers in the Northern Territory which bear his name.
On this trip we crossed one of the Goyder Rivers (elsewhere also called the Goyder Creek) and we decided to leave a cache in the middle of the river. We thought we should leave it high enough to avoid flood waters. While also not disturbing the budgies.
We placed it while the river was dry. About 6-7 metres up.
If there is enough water in the river when you visit it may be reachable by boat. Paradoxically without the water it may be out of reach for many.
