The Shuiwatou Trail is located between Dazhu Lake and Itathao. There is a frog statue and a car parking lot at the entrance. The trail is 500 meters long and has a drop of about 60 meters. It is the circular movement of the waterfront. Passing by the Mengzong Bamboo Forest, the scenery is beautiful, with abundant native forest trees and ferns. There are many Schima superba trees next to the trail, and white flowers bloom in summer, which is of great ornamental value. Along the way, you can watch the lively ecology of butterfly dancing, bird flying, fish leaping and frog leaping. A bronze sculpture of "Frogs on Arhats" is set up by the lake, which vividly narrates the origin of place names and becomes an observation indicator of the rise and fall of the water level.
The story of the stacked nine frogs
The original design of Nine Frog came from the design of Mr. Lu Zhaoliang of Qingjing Company, which was commissioned by the Nantou County Scenic Area Management Office to design the Shuiwatou natural trail before the September 21 earthquake, and commissioned Mr. Shen Zhengying, a well-known artist in the Sun Moon Lake area, to create the prototype. It is planned to install a frog statue on the water surface at the end of the trail to enhance the place name impression of "Water Frog Head". The image of the Nine Frogs on the Arhat is to highlight Sun Moon Lake’s pumped storage for power generation, resulting in an interesting phenomenon of nearly two meters of water drop every day. Visitors at different times of the same day or visits will notice why the number of frogs exposed on the water is different, and thus discover the extremely important function of Sun Moon Lake pumped storage and power generation.
水蛙頭步道位於大竹湖及伊達邵之間，入口處有青蛙雕像及小客車停車場，步道長500公尺，落差約60公尺，為高架棧道鋪設而成，行走於竹林幽徑上，終點為水濱的環狀動線。途經孟宗竹林，景致優美，原生林木、蕨類豐富，步道旁有多株木荷，夏天時盛開白色花朵，極富觀賞價值。沿途觀賞蝶舞、鳥飛、魚躍及蛙跳的活潑生態，潭邊設置「青蛙疊羅漢」銅雕，栩栩如生的述說地名的由來，也成為水位升降的觀測指標。
九蛙疊像的小故事
九蛙的原始設計來自九二一地震前受南投縣風景區管理所委託設計水蛙頭自然步道的青境公司呂兆良先生設計，並委請日月潭地區知名藝術家沈政瑩先生塑造原型。計畫在步道的終點水面上設置青蛙雕像，以強化「水蛙頭」的地名印象。而九蛙疊羅漢的意象是為了凸顯日月潭抽蓄發電，導致每天會有將近兩公尺水位落差的有趣現象。遊客在同一天的不同時段，或不同次的造訪會注意到為何露出水面的青蛙數量不一樣，因而發現了日月潭抽蓄發電這個極為重要的功能。
