Geocache Description:

Brandon Hill Park is probably my favourite of all the parks in Bristol. It can be fairly quiet for a city centre park, it is abundant in wildlife with interesting plants and woodland plus it has incredible views of the city. The park is very hilly and therefore may be challenging for some.

Brandon Hill Park introduction

Brandon Hill is the oldest park in Bristol, where you can enjoy great views over the city and Harbourside area. Located just off Park Street in Bristol's city centre, Brandon Hill features a children's play area, alpine water gardens, mazy paths around various exotic trees and of course the icon of Bristol's skyline, Cabot Tower:

Designed by the Bristol architect William Venn Gough and paid for by public subscription, the tower is built from red sandstone covered with cream Bath stone. The tower is 105ft tall and was built in 1897 to commemorate John Cabot's famous voyage from Bristol to the continent of North America four hundred years earlier. Located in the centre of the park, it's free to climb up the steep, twisting steps of the tower, and is normally open daily.

The Walk

Please note the waypoints don't have to be done in any order but the cache is located close to waypoint 5. At each waypoint you will need to search around the area a little to find the answers.

1) At the first waypoint, find the tree behind the pond and the Sri plaque by the benches:

The day of plantation = A
The number of Edwards = B
How long Sri has been spreading the word = CD

2) At second waypoint, look at the plaques around the tower:

Number of letters in Bristol's motto = EF
Number of sons = G
Dufferin's Day = HI

3) At third waypoint, look for a small plaque by sculpture:

The year of consciousness JKLM

4) At fourth waypoint, look at a tree plaque, an info board and a nearby tree:

Letters in the name of the big-hearted nature man = N
The year St Georges helped butterflies = OPQR
The number of giant matches by the tree fit for a tall owl = S

5) At fifth waypoint, look for two information boards:

What year did the grazing stop? TUVW
How many giant bike racks near the hoop? X
What number bucket did Sir David throw? Y
