Geocache Description:

If you are fairly new to Geocaching and do not know what an LPC is, please read this before searching!

Greetings and welcome to this exciting and addictive hobby! The veterans of the caching world welcome you as it is you who will add to this game. I've noticed many relatively new geocachers in the area who are unfamiliar with the geocaching term LPC. I decided to give a quick Geocaching 101 lesson. If you read the hint you will see it says simply LPC, which means Lamp Post Cache. What this means is the geocache container is hiding under the "skirt" at the base of the lamp post. These are usually in areas with a lot of cars and people, so stealth is required. So look around to make sure no muggles, or non geocachers are present, and being as stealthy as possible, lift the skirt. There you should find a pill bottle safely tucked inder it. The number one rule in geocaching is to sign the physical log. Only then can you make the "found it" log online. There is no pen in this one, so be sure to bring your own. So now you know what LPC means and where to look.. Skirt lifting is another popular term. No digging in the dirt or in the bushes is needed. If the geocache is not there, which will be very obvious, please sent me a message so I can replace it as quickly as possible. Sometimes I don't see every log posted. Have fun and happy caching!
Now back to our regularly scheduled description....

Welcome to the first of the Spirit Trail Series!  This series takes you around Cache Valley regions to known "haunted" places.  While we don't mind an occasional spookiness, we desire to share more of the history and lore with you than just a ''good scare''!  *FTF will receive a special little gift; nothing fancy, but perhaps a small 'thank you' token*

This beautiful, peaceful Cemetery possesses a gentle reverence that deserves complete respect as you gaze about the location. A lot of history of Logan City resides within these perimeters, reflecting ancestry and heritage for many.  For this first of the series "Spirit Trail", we focus on the more humbling, touching personal side of this particular cemetery lore.

Within this cemetery near the center sits a beautiful realistic statue known as "The Weeping Woman".

The weeping woman statue was erected to memorialize Julia Cronquist by her husband Olif after five out of eight of their children died before adulthood. The tragedy begun in March 1889 when scarlet fever first struck the Cronquist household, killing her twins, Olif and Oliver, when they were just six years old. Five years later, she lost another child, Lilean. It is unclear whether Lilean was stillborn or died shortly after birth, but regardless, Julia had her second chance at happiness taken from her before she even had a chance to enjoy it (Jenn). Seven years after that, scarlet fever made its return and she lost two daughters, Emelia and Inez, on the same day at the ages of four and two respectively. Julia visited the graves of her lost children often to grieve the losses that had occurred before she eventually met her end in 1914 (Family). Julia died from heart disease, most likely a complication from when she had contracted scarlet fever earlier in her life (Jenn). She met an almost poetic end: a broken heart caused by the same disease that killed half her children.

Her obituary stated—
"a splendid woman, tender, loving, patient, and true. Bearing a great burden without complaint and always seeking the happiness and comfort of others."

It is said that many passerbys would witness Julia weep at the gate of her home, or upon the grave site of her beloved children. Many would try to console her, comfort her, and apparently Julia had tremendous gratitude to those who tried.  A kind woman, she loved her husband, her children, and without a doubt with all of her heart and spirit and mind.

Now knowing the history, as you gaze and reflect over the cemetery from the entrance, I encourage pondering over the many wonderful blessings and good things that have taken place in your life.  If you wish to visit the grave site, please be mindful, perhaps take flowers, and acknowledge that knowing more to the rumors and folklore can sometimes bring a better understanding in what actually took place.

We encourage you to bring your own writing utensil, watch out for muggles, and be mindful of your surroundings in this beautiful, quiet cemetery location. Many students commute through here, so watch for pedestrians. We recommend driving into the Cemetery entrance near the cache as there is little room on the shoulder. Ther is an area off the pavement where you can park. Daylight caching only here, as is the rule for all cemeteries. You are responsible to follow rules and local laws.
Please return the cache to it's original placement, and if you see anything wrong with it, please don't hesitate to contact me!  Happy caching!!
