Le luci soffuse che illanguidiscono la passeggiata ciclo-pedonale a mare e il vento che spira tra le foglie nei belvedere, restituiscono al luogo i silenzi e le dolcezze che incantarono il musicista e pianista ungherese Franz Liszt che qui soggiornò trovando ristoro fisico e mentale. Spiovono sulla costa i riverberi delle stradine ombrose illuminate dalle fiaccole, nelle sere del Presepe Vivente, o dai lampioni nelle miti notti estive. Nel borgo sono visibili i segni lasciati da Papa Sisto V. Infatti addentrandosi nelle viuzze del borgo s’incontrano la chiesa di San Giovanni Battista, dove è allestito il Museo Sistino con gli oggetti donati dal Pontefice al suo paese d’origine.
La cinquecentesca chiesa di Santa Lucia, fu costruita per volontà di Sisto V proprio accanto alla sua casa natale (da notare lo splendido organo del 1752, opera di Francesco Fedeli) e il settecentesco Teatro dell’Arancio, anch’esso sapientemente restaurato, che in una nicchia della facciata esibisce una statua del Papa realizzata nel 1794 da uno scultore svizzero.
La cache si trova nei pressi della chiesa di Sant’Agostino, sotto le mura tra i profumi degli aranceti. Collocata sulla ripida strada che dalla marina porta al borgo antico, la chiesa ha origine cinquecentesca e conserva un affresco di Vincenzo Pagani, la "Madonna della Misericordia" e alcune tavole di scuola crivellesca (XV-XVI secolo). La costruzione presenta un'abside merlata, come fortificata, e un campanile mozzato, così ridotto perché, secondo la tradizione locale, nel convento annesso alla chiesa fu ospitato il monaco agostiniano Martin Lutero, durante il suo viaggio verso Roma, prima del grande scisma.
The suffused lights that soften the cycle-pedestrian walk to the sea and the wind that blows through the leaves in the panoramic viewpoints, give back to the place the silence and sweetness that enchanted the Hungarian musician and pianist Franz Liszt who stayed here finding physical and mental refreshment. The reverberations of the shady streets lit by torches in the evenings of the Living Nativity Scene, or by streetlights on the mild summer nights fall on the coast. The signs left by Pope Sixtus V are visible in the village. Indeed, entering the alleys of the village you will find the church of San Giovanni Battista (St. John Baptist), where the Sistine Museum is set up with the collection donated by the Pontiff to his village of origin.
The sixteenth-century church of St. Lucy was erected by the will of Sixtus V right next to his birthplace (note the splendid organ of 1752, the work of Francesco Fedeli) and the eighteenth-century “Teatro dell'Arancio” (Orange Theatre), also expertly restored, which exhibits a statue of the Pope, made in 1794 by a Swiss sculptor, and situated in a niche of the façade.
The cache is near the church of St. Augustine, under the walls among the scents of orange groves. Situated on the steep road that leads from the marina to the ancient village, the church has sixteenth-century origins and preserves a fresco by Vincenzo Pagani, the "Madonna della Misericordia" (Our Lady of Mercy) and some panels of the Crivellesca school (XV-XVI century). The building has a crenelated apse, as if fortified, and a severed bell tower, thus reduced, according to local tradition, because the Augustinian monk Martin Luther was housed in the convent attached to the church, during his journey to Rome, before the great schism.
