Who would have thought that Pilot PO Dickerson, Engineer Sergeant Boffey, Navigator FO Lewis, Bomb Aimer FS Pawley, Wireless Operator Sergeant Hills, and Mid Upper Gunner Sergeant Krukowski of the Royal Canadian Air Force , and Rear Gunner FO Ramsey, after a successful bombing mission to Berlin, would have encountered another aircraft of its kind on its return to RAF Metheringham.
This they did on the night of 15th February 1944. In avoiding the returning Lancaster in the circuit above the aerodrome, the 106 Squadron Lancaster bomber crashed on Timberland Drove, Timberland Fen, near Timberland, Lincolnshire. Four members of JB534 ZN-K were killed, one crew died later of his wounds while two survived.
The sad thing, members of the farming and local community heard the aircraft overhead with the noise of its engines before the Avro Lancaster bomber crashed.
