Tamagawa Speedway opened in June 1936. It was the first permanent motor racing circuit to be built in Japan. There is the old grandstand, constructed from stepped rows of concrete.
Number of car and motorcycle race meetings were held here, often attracting as many as 30,000 spectators. Drivers and entrants were able to develop their skills through racing, and many later played an important role in the postwar Japanese motor industry.
However, Tamagawa Speedway was close in 1950’s due to the noise problem and the number of users has decreased. The memorial plate was placed in the way point to mark the 80th anniversary of Tamagawa Speedway.

多摩川スピードウェイは日本初の常設サーキットとしてこの地に建設されました。公開座標にある階段状のコンクリート製堤防は、当時の観客席そのものです。
1936年6月の第１回大会以降、ここで第２次世界大戦前の数年間を中心に自動車・オートバイのレースが開催され、3万人の観客を集めていました。
若き日の本田宗一郎氏をはじめ、出場者・関係者の多くは、レースで得た技術・経験を活かし、戦後の自動車産業の発展において中心的な役割を果たしました。
しかし、戦後に首都圏への地方からの流入人口が増加したため周辺住民からの騒音問題に加え、利用者の減少から1950年代にサーキットは廃止とされ野球場に改装されました。現在は日本ハム球団多摩川グラウンドが造成され、2016年には開場80周年を記念するプレートがウェイポイントの場所に設置されました。
