Welcome to the second geocache of the CARS series! Also, welcome to Fredericton's oldest rink, the York Arena.
The arena opened in 1947 to Fredericton and has become a celebrity rink in New Brunswick as it is one of the oldest in NB at 74 years old. Known to many Frederictonians as the coldest rink on the planet it remained unchanged for 25 years until 1972. In 1972, the York Arena was completely dismantled and rebuilt and became the "York Arena" many of us know today. After going a longer period of time after its renovation, city council began to talk about removing the arena and building a new one. After many petitions and protests, the city concluded that they would renovate the arena instead of tearing it down. York Arena did not open for the 2014-15 hockey season. It was closed through two hockey seasons and reopened still, with its historic charm with a 21st century touch. The arena opened for the 2016-17 hockey season.
