Geocache Description:

There is lots of free parking in South Warnborough (along with a cafe and pub for refreshments) which marks the start of a number of cache trails. There is a short, family friendly loop to Long Sutton and back set by JMEO. There is also a bat themed trail to the beautiful village of Greywell with a site of significant interest for those who love their wildlife. For the more ambitious, there is a full 13km loop that includes the Odiham - Bird series, the Odiham - Bat series, the S Warnborough - Long Sutton loop and a trail that links Greywell back to Odiham.

This series involves an area that we love with beautiful paths and walks in the Hampshire countryside along with our love of wildlife. Each cache has information relating to a different bat that you can find in the UK, some of which will be present at a location that is well known to residents. The bonus cache, if you collect all the numbers and letters needed, will offer you the opportunity to experience the wonderful life of bats at close hand. All caches are bats and each one has a letter or number written on the container which will enable you to find the final bonus cache.

We are lucky enough to have 18 species of bat in the UK, 17 of which are known to be breeding here - that's almost a quarter of our mammal species. Every summer, thousands of people venture out to experience the wonder of bats in their natural environment. Sadly, bat populations have suffered severe declines during the past century, but the Bat Conservation Trust and more than 100 local bat groups are working hard to help our bats hang on.

Nathusius' Pipistrelle:

A previous migrant species, it has only been classed as a resident species since 1997.
