Geocache Description:

The peanut industry is BIG business in this part of the State.  You may have passed one of the larger and more successful peanut yards on the way to this GC.  On the north side of the east-west road are peanut fields.  It's amazing to watch them being harvested.  Everything is done mechanically now.  Fertilizing is done with computerized equipment that is SO sophisticated that probes reacting to the soil content as the unit moves along will then feed information through a computer that then will dispense a mix of fertilizer specific to that exact area's needs, ever changing as the machinary is moving along!

Of course, peanuts being a seasonal crop, peanut farmers often have other areas of interest that bring in revenue throughout the year.  Some grow pines for lumber, mulch, paper, cardboard and other by-products.  Some keep cattle and use some of the peanut plant "waste" as a feed supplement.  Others grow soybeans, usually as a rotation crop to plow back into "spent" fields, helping to return nutrients to the soil for future peanut crops.

Sometimes the land just sits dormant and folks hide things.  However, one should never hide anything beyond the fence line unless one owns the land.  In other words, this is practically a "park and grab".
