This cache is part of a series of caches that have been "reborn" after having been archived. It is not uncommon for geocaches placed with good intentions to become archived because the owner can't or chooses not to maintain them. These caches have been given a new life and remain as close to the original cache as reasonably possible. This cache was originally hidden by MTtroutman, Grandpa, and Little Buckshot on June 8, 2014.
While there is no history lesson required to find this cache anymore, here are the history facts included in the original hide design:
The 1-163d Infantry Regiment was involved in the Papau Campaign of World War II in 1941.
The Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776, though actually on August 2, rather than July 4th.
Montana became a state on November 8, 1889.
The highest point in Montana, Granite Peak, is approximately 12,809' tall.
This cache/treasure is inside of an ammo can painted with red flames, which is inside of a very well-camouflaged wooden box. It's a short hike a little over 3/10 of a mile up the Archery Rg Trail and my 3 1/2 year old had no problem ascending the slight to moderate uphill grade.
This is our first cache and I KNOW that anyone who finds it will love the experience and the history that accompanies it. The "treasure" as my 3 1/2 year old son calls it is a cool flame painted ammo can inside of a very well-hidden and camouflaged outer wooden box.
This trail is significant to my family because it was the first trail I ever brought my young son up to backpack with me. We had a ton of fun building and placing this treasure and we know you guys will have a great time as well! Please leave it as you found it.
