VCCGT: Farm To Table, But Red or White? Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

yamlet: I am not able to maintain this cache due to my age and responsibilities at home taking care of my wife. My daughter is moving out-of-town as well, so it's time to archive. I enjoyed working with the winery owner to place this cache for the GeoTour.

Geocache Description:

You have found your next adventure!  Thank you for joining us for the “Visit Centre County” GeoTour as we show you some of our most favorite Happy Valley Vineyard & Winerycaching locations to include state parks, beautiful vistas, and historical points of interest!  Our team of GeoTour planners have worked very hard to put together various cache types to keep the GeoTour interesting and challenging; however, no geocache should be beyond a 3/3.5 for terrain and/or difficulty!  We are pleased to show you around our County and hope that you will enjoy the GeoTour and complete your passport to collect your custom GeoTour Geocoin (there is a minimum number of caches required to receive coin)!

If you will be caching with some young ‘uns, we have a Jr. Geocaching Passport available for children, 12 yrs. and under, with a special prize for their hard work too! Caches will be marked as “family-friendly” and should correlate to the Jr. Geocaching Passport.

Download your “Visit Centre County” GeoTour passport and/or your Jr. Geocaching Passport or pick-up paper copies at the following coordinates: N 40° 48.879; W 077° 51.274 (Happy Valley Adventure Bureau).  You’ll return your passport to the Happy Valley Adventure Bureau when complete and collect your prize if you meet the minimum requirements!

The “Visit Centre County” GeoTour is brought to you by Centre Region Parks and Recreation, the Happy Valley Adventure Bureau, and Groundspeak, Inc.  We are pleased that you’ll be joining us in Happy Valley soon!  Bring on the Adventures!

Vines

Cache Info

You’re about to enter a magical place—9.5 acres of beautiful grape vines used to create Happy Valley Vineyard and Winery’s award-winning reds and whites.  We recommend that only adults attempt this cache as this location may not be as appropriate for children as other cache sites on this tour are! Maybe the best time to visit is after a long day of caching!  😊  😉

The winery’s land has been farmed since the 19th century, and the tradition continues with the current wine production.  The winery opened in 2010, serving its first vintage in the fall of 2010.  The tasting room was constructed in 2013. The winery grows 90% of its grapes on-site, including 15 grape varieties. This winery focuses on "sustainable agricultural practices in the vineyard as well as using energy efficient products to make our wine."

This is a lovely location that is so close to town, yet the vineyard gives you the feeling of a rural existence.  Once you enter the farm, other than a handful of visible homes nearby, you are immediately immersed among grapevines, farm fields, and beautiful tree lines.  Enjoy this special space once you enter the grounds.

Before attempting this cache, please be sure to check Happy Valley Vineyard and Winery’s operating hours; regular hours and COVID-19 hours are posted, and you can check their website or social media pages.  This cache is ONLY available during operating hours; be sure to check the website for the site's operating hours.  If you find the main gate closed, please respect the operational hours and do not bushwack to the cache site.  If you find the gate open but the posted hours indicate the vineyard is closed, please return at a different time.  Do not bushwack to the cache site.  Cache permission was granted by Happy Valley Vineyard and Winery’s owners!

When caching, stealth is required.  Please do not venture into the vineyard as you do not need to wander far from the main tasting room/patio area.  Twist to open the cache; there is no need to remove the cache from its location.
