ABOUT THE COAST REDWOOD
The name sequoia (in the Latin name) comes from a Native American Cherokee whose name was Sequoiah. They can grow to more than 350 feet. The “Stratosphere Giant,” the current tallest Coast Redwood, reaches a height of 374 feet. It is an evergreen tree, meaning it has leaves year round unlike deciduous trees that lose their leaves in the fall. The trunk is branchless, on most trees, for two-thirds of the way up. The spongy, red bark on the tree acts as a fire resistant to protect the tree during forest fires. These trees only live in a small section between Monterey Bay and the Oregon border. They are very special, enjoy the ones you see while doing this cache!
