Welcome to Wild Cat Glades Conservation Area!
This event will be an opportunity to meet with fellow geocachers and explore some of the unique features of the Wild Cat Glades area. This is a free event in the public park and is open for all to attend.
This event will coincide with the release of several new geocaches in the area.
The Chert glades are a habitat which only exists in southern Missouri. They are described as a near desert-like environment. This is due to the hard chert bedrock underneath the soil, which has eroded and been exposed to the surface. Plants characteristic of arid areas, including cacti, grow here. Other plants had to adapt to the environment, resulting in some species having stunted growth. There are only 60 acres (24 ha) of chert glades remaining, of which 27 acres are in Wildcat Glades.
In addition to camaraderie and the unique enviroment, attendees can explore the 4 miles of public trails along Shoal Creek, including caves, cliffs and historic bridges.
