Come help us celebrate 20 years of Geocky. Everyone is always welcome. Please note that this IS a kid-friendly and dog-friendly location.
Country Boy Brewing Taproom
108 Corporate Blvd
Georgetown, Kentucky
After a several-year hiatis, the annual birthday gathering for the group Geocachers of Kentucky is back at a familiar spot, the Country Boy Taproom in Georgetown. With its large patio and taproom, we should be able to squeeze in somewhere.
We will knock around with standard meet-and-greet activities as well as games, drawings, announcements, and a group photo to commemorate 20 years. Someone tell Moontwig to get her camera ready as we are counting on her...
Presents
New cache hides are a tradition of the Geocky birthday event. It gives everyone an opportunity to find new caches, either pre- or post-event and perhaps with other event-goers. To be clear, placing geocaches is not required or necessarily expected to attend this event. Come as you are.
However, if you are inclined to place any presents for the event, please post a Note log to let everyone know of the nearby fun outside of the event.
History
NOTE - As our history rolls on, it is becoming more tedious to document and more longwinded for anyone to read on the cache page. In response this will shorter synopisis of the group through the years. If you are interested in where we have come from, please see our FB group and this bookmark list of past birthday events.
In November 2001 Lexington saw its first cache placed.
In December 2002, a group of geocachers met for the first time. Like other early geocaching groups, the focus was not only social but practical. In those early years of geocaching, local communities around the country such as Geocky met to discuss land manager efforts to ban geocaching in some of our federal, state, and local lands. The goal was to find ways to reverse this trend through education and mediation with land managers to address their concerns. From this first event, Geocky formed as a geocaching service and social organization.
Over the past 20 years, Geocky has continued with events and activities hosted by its members. Food and watering hole meetups, hiking the local lands, biking trails like the Legacy trail, paddling the many area waterways, and picnics at park shelters have been ad continue to be a part of Geocky's history. Service opportunities remain part of the group's mission and is now accomplished through CITOs such as the twice-a-year Adopt-A-Highway cleanup in Lexington.
