When we first moved here in the early 2000's, people talked about the race to get up the hill and down. Once we started commuting between Rossland and Trail - we understood what they meant. Speed limits are a suggestion, weaving from lane to lane is allowed, and no year is complete without some older car, truck or motorhome (or street sweeper) catching fire due to the excessive engine heat generated roaring up this hill.
There is good parking near the cache both on the uphill and downhill sides of the highway - but on the downhill side, it's a tricky entrance and you come up on it quickly. The uphill side is usually ploughed, but the downhill side is often not.
If you are going to cross the highway - please be super careful. It's 4 lanes and the cars - as I have said - move very fast.
