MARCH 2020 EXPEDITION TO FIRE AFFECTED - ST ALBANS
Come join us for a catch up at the fire affected area of St Albans which is located approx 1.5 hrs from Sydney and the Central Coast.
The intention of the expedition is to explore an area that is a little out of the way. Initially Mt Kosciuszko was the location for our expedition, however with the fires affecting so much of NSW (& the country) we decided it would be good to support a fire affected community, helping them get back on their feet. After consultation with the members, St Albans was selected. We will endeavour to have a hike later in the year, possibly in the cooler months. Let us know if you have any suggestions for a location.
Live music every Sunday creates a gorgeous atmosphere in the 'Forgotten Valley'.
Let's support a region that has recently gone through some hardships. Also a good opportunity to find the nearby Traditional cache and the Earthcache!
The history of the Settlers Arms Inn.
Originally built on the banks of the Macdonald River in 1836 as a cattle drover's rest stop. It soon became a popular spot for the Cobb & Co stagecoaches travelling between Sydney & Newcastle to stop and rest before continuing on their arduous journey. St Albans would become the loading point for goods from the local agricultural industry to be shipped down the Hawkesbury River in to Sydney. Nowadays the inn has become a popular stop for motorists & motorcyclists on their weekend jaunts.
