First came the gold, then the miners, water, even power in some areas, inevitably the brewery followed. In 1902 there were 38 licenced premises in Gill and Mossman Street, with over 70 others in the surrounding areas over the gold rush. 20-30 000 people working in the tropics get thirsty! The brewery operated until 1936 and the foundations are still evident on Alabama Hill.
There was a cache here Brew with a view by Cragged from 2010 to 2014 with 52 finds.
Waypoints for turning off the bitumen and parking are given. There is not much turning so I would not tow anything on the gravel road. Wander around the ruins, admire the view, the cache is a little up the hill in a thematic container and a liquid gold micro log- not much else. The gold is attracted to the lid.
