Geocache Description:

Statue of a Son of the South

The “Son of the South” you seek is the only person named on the statue that dominates the square. Though this town is in many ways more western than southern, the statue celebrates that part of its history that results from the Civil War and from the two battles fought near by. The best time to visit this site is on a Friday evening in the late summer or early fall. At these times another part of local heritage fills the air, as local musicians gather on the square and present free concerts of blue grass and mountain music.

Send me the name of the individual named on the statue and I’ll send you a certificate of completion. For extra credit name the “accouterment” the statue is missing. (hint it’s an important piece of equipment both for soldiers of the Civil War and for geocachers of today)
