Geocache Description:

Cottesloe Beach

Cottesloe (or simply Cott) Beach is located in the highly sought-after suburb of Cottesloe in Western Australia. Accessible by many means of transport including bus, train, bike and car, and located close to several commercial buildings such as restaurants, cafés and bars, it attracts an estimated 600,000 visitors each year. Cottesloe Beach is home to many distinctly West Australian symbols, such as the Indiana Teahouse and Sculptures by the Sea. The beach is also recognisable by 6 wooden sunshades and a groyne that lie on its southern side.

Context

As our coasts continue to change, particularly with more severe weather events and rising sea levels, local councils have to implement sustainable strategies to mitigate these issues. At Cottesloe Beach, management strategies that are currently implimented include a groyne (built 1960), terraced hills and a shark net. In March 2021 the local council announced their plans to revitalise the Cottesloe foreshore, with new "green and shady places, natural seating, coastal gardens and plaza areas". More information can be found here. Earlier in July 2019, Minderoo Group, backed by Andrew 'Twiggy' Forrest, released 4 designs for a modern and redeveloped Indiana Teahouse. Nothing has eventuated as of now (October 2021), but it is evident that Cottesloe Beach will see some major changes over the coming years as the local council and other organisations work to revitalise the area whilst also protecting and maintaining the coast in a sustainable manner.

The task

Your task is simple - take a photo from the groyne looking out over Cottesloe Beach. An example is included below. Once you have taken this photo please simply attach it to your geocache log.

This geocache will provide an interesting digital archive of how Cottesloe Beach has changed over time.

Enjoy!
