Te Ara Pae Moana (Coastal Path)
After more than 20 years of lobbying by Cycle Action Auckland it appears that a cycle and pedestrian path over the Harbour Bridge is finally going to be built. A timeline of the advocacy is at this link. The project has had a variety of names over the years. The current official name is the rather prosaic Northern Pathway but most people still refer to it as Skypath.
Hopefully, this Virtual Cache will help document the construction of the Skypath as it passes over Stokes Point Reserve
Instructions (5 steps)
*** Important: You must follow the instructions correctly or your cache log will be deleted ***
Step 1:
Proceed to the cache co-ordinates, and take a photo by placing your camera on top of the rubbish bin, on the side away from the Harbour Bridge. The photo should be landscape (ie wider than it is taller). Line up the base of the flagpole with the bottom left corner of your screen when taking the photo. (If, for whatever reason, accessing the rubbish bin is not possible, then take a photo with your camera pressed against the flagpole, looking towards the cache co-ordinates).
Post this photo as the first photo (and preferably only photo) with your log.
Step 2:
Proceed to the Question Waypoint at S36°49.579' E174°44.935'.
Record the number of minutes it takes to walk to Te Onewa Pa.
Step 3:
Follow the walkway south, to visit the remains of Te Onewa Pa, view the plaque commemorating the lives of the three men who died during the construction of the bridge, and admire the Pou placed there (still under the shadow of the pakeha).
On your way back, look at the bridge support adjacent to the flagpole. There are two words written there. Record the 6th letter of the first word.
Step 4:
Return to the Question Waypoint at S36°49.579' E174°44.935'.
Record the middle word of the authority which erected the Stokes Point Reserve sign (bottom right corner).
Step 5:
To be sure that you visited the site, promptly after posting your log with the photo attached, send to the cache owner the cache code GC890AK, and the three words that were recorded in steps 2 to 4 above. Do not put the answers in your log, and do not post photos of the signs
