Geocache Description:

7 Wonders of the World - The Colossus of Rhodes

The Colossus of Rhodes was a statue of the Greek sun-god Helios, erected in the city of Rhodes, on the Greek island of the same name, by Chares of Lindos in 280 BC. One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, it was constructed to celebrate Rhodes' victory over the ruler of Cyprus, Antigonus I Monophthalmus, whose son Demetrius I of Macedon unsuccessfully besieged Rhodes in 305 BC. According to most contemporary descriptions, the Colossus stood approximately 70 cubits, or 33 metres (108 feet) high—the approximate height of the modern Statue of Liberty from feet to crown—making it the tallest statue of the ancient world. It collapsed during the earthquake of 226 BC; although parts of it were preserved, it was never rebuilt.

Even though the colossus is no longer present in the Mandraki port, tourists are still visiting the place where it was standing. On the spot where god Helios was straddled we can find two pillars with two fallow deer – a male on one and a female on another. These columns have become the symbol of Rhodes Island and will forever commemorate the location of the Rhodes Colossus.

For the log to be valid, the following condition has to be met:

to attach photo of yourself (or your GPS) with BOTH columns with fallow deer to your log (see spoiler 1)

Special condition for the xTF hunters!
to claim a xTF you need to upload photo of your full body standing in the “colossus position” (see spoiler 2)

Logs without attached photos will be deleted.
