Geocache Description:

This virtual will take you to an unusual memorial to Victoria Woodhull. The only monument in the United States to Victoria Claflin Woodhull, who mounted a campaign to become the first woman president in 1872, stands as part of the clock and bell tower on the west exterior wall of the Robbins Hunter Museum. She made her bid for the highest office in the nation as a nominee of the Equal Rights Party, a full 136 years before Hillary Clinton launched her first campaign.

This monument is located less than 15 miles from her hometown of Homer, Ohio and stands as a clock and bell tower with her name on it. Woodhull, had carved out a place in history, but few knew much about the Licking County native or what she had accomplished in a time when women’s activism went largely unacknowledged.

In 1976 Robbins Hunter, a Licking County historian, made it his project to build a memorial to Woodhull in his garden. A wood carved statue of her likeness glides out of the clock each hour while bells ring. There are specific hours when the museum is open, but the Victoria Woodhull clock can be seen at all hours, as it is located outside of the building.

The clock dedicated to Victoria Woodhull is located above the side entrance facing the Granville Library of the Robbins-Hunter Museum. By parking in front of the library and taking the sidewalk that leads between the two buildings to the posted coordinates, the bell and clock cannot be missed.

To claim this virtual you must email or message me the answers to the following questions within 24 hours.

1. At the posted coordinates you will find a sign. Where did the large bell in the tower come from?

2. Below the sign is a brick walkway with commemorative bricks. At your feet is a brick from Tony Kohn to the best dog ever. What breed of dog is mentioned?

3. Under the tree a few feet away from the sign is a stone bench with an appreciation plaque. What is the name on the plaque?

Pictures are encouraged but not required. Please do not post anything that will give away the answers. You will only hear back if your answers are unacceptable.
