Geocache Description:

Thomasville History Series - WPAX

This geocache is located near the broadcast studios of Georgia’s 3rd oldest radio station, WPAX. WPAX was founded in 1922, making it one of the United State’s first 20 radio stations. The above photo shows the station's set-up, circa 1922. Originally broacast from a basement, WPAX moved to Downtown Thomasville in 1930. Many famous Americans such as President Jimmy Carter and Senator Barry Goldwater have sat behind the WPAX microphone. The 210 foot broadcast tower above the building is considered by many as a local landmark, especially at night as W-P-A-X flash high above the brick streets

Parking for this geocache is availible very near GZ. Please excercise stealth during your hunt, as muggles may be around. The cache is not located in the landscaping. Please Do Not destroy the landscaping. You should hear the WPAX broadcast from speakers at the cache location. What song is playing while you are here? Tell us in your log. Hope you enjoy this cache and others in the "Thomasville History Series!"
