Geocache Description:


The Church of Timios Stavros on the South side of the village of Kalo Chorio Pediados, was built in 1980 by Adonis Kipriotakis (1923-1996) from the village. He build this Church out of gratitude to God for saving his life from drowning during an action in the civil war, that took place in Greece from 1945 to 1949. Agios Stavros is celebratedon the 14 of September. On the East side you'll see a hill called O Mazas ( Mother Earth ) wich has a lot of Minoan antiquities, like the remains of an ancient Village and a n sacred offering place. The hill was also part of, and used as the Minoan signalling or communication system. They send messages all around the Island by means of burning fires on the hill tops. To the North you'll have a spectacular view over Kalo Chorio and the Gulf of Iraklion including the Island of Dia. You can walk from this one to the other cache The Windmill at Kalo Chorio Pediados. GC83GD6 and have a nice meal or drink at the Village.
