Burlington Mural Project (2015) Freeman Station
This is geocache number 18, in the growing "Burlington Public Art Series". The final is a small plastic peanut butter jar . As this is a letterbox cache, it contains a stamp, that is not a trade item, please do not remove it from the container. Stage 1 takes you to Freeman Station, a mural created by Claire Hall, where you will answer a number of questions in order to locate the final container.
Now, a bit about the Mural:
Freeman Station,
Artist: Claire Hall, 2015
Acrylic paint, on wood panel
This mural was a collaboration of ideas between the artist and the Friends of Freeman Station. The extensive knowledge of the committee members was combined with the artist’s creative vision. The team decided that the ideal goal would be to allow the viewer to see what the station would have looked like when it was first opened in 1906. The mural's current location was originally an open portico when the station was first built. It was used as a passenger platform before it was eventually enclosed to act as an extra baggage room. Several photos taken of Freeman Station during its early years of operation, with characters in period dress, were combined to come up with the final design of the mural.
About the Artist
Claire Hall always had a passion for art and design. She has been creating art ever since she was a little girl but never dreamed that she could turn her passion into a career.
Claire’s ultimate career path happened somewhat by fluke. When Claire was in her mid twenties, she uploaded images of her paintings to Facebook, and received over twenty orders for art that night.
From the beginning, Claire rejected the “starving artist” stereotype and instead used both sides of her brain when structuring her business- she combined the logical left with the creative right. Through hard work and persistence, Claire gained recognition in the art and design community.
