Located on a former USAF Pinetree Line Early Warning Radar Site. This Cold War era base was code named "Dog Fever" and operated by the 921st Airborne Control and Warning Squadron (ACWRON). Construction started in 1951 and the base was operational by November 1953. Equipment included FPS-3C, FPS-502, FPS-20A and FPS-93A search radar and TPS-502 and FPS-6B height finder radar. The base closed on 31 March 1968.
The cache is a round black plastic container (4.5" diameter x 6.5" tall) with a screw on top and is located within 100 feet of the foundation of a search radar radome. You can park less than a 1/4 mile from the cache in the average vehicle. Closer if you have 4WD and don't mind scratching some paint. The container is at the bottom of a small rock ledge and is covered by medium sized rocks. The view is great up here. Cremailliere Bay, St. Anthony, the White Hills, and the North Atlantic. Bring your camera. If it's foggy don't plan on taking too many pictures. Fog gets thick up here. Windy too. Fog and wind...! Only in Newfoundland! Start at the top when moving the rocks. Container is near the top under 2 or 3 flat rocks. Please put the cache container back where you found it when you're done. If container is not in the right place and you know where it should be, I kindly ask that to put it in it's proper spot with rocks covering the cache. Thanks.
