Geocache Description:

You are looking for a well-camouflaged micro!

Australia is renowned for its BIG features. You all have heard of, and may have visited; The Big Banana at Coffs Harbour, The Big Pineapple at Nambour, The Big Prawn at Exmouth, The Big Merino at Goulburn, The Big Rocking Horse at Gumeracha! The list is endless!

Churchill has The Big Cigar!

The area now known as Churchill was originally named Hazelwood, but was renamed after Sir Winston Churchill's death. The change of name has not been without its critics, and residents who pushed hard to restore the Hazelwood name were finally heard in 1989, when the town was asked to vote on whether the town would be renamed to Hazelwood or stay as Churchill. The name Churchill won by narrow vote.

Churchill has an outstanding landmark, a tall square "golden" tower. It was not designed with any intention of replicating Churchill's cigar, but merely as an item of interest. Near its base is a commemorative brick wall built by the Rotary Club of Hazelwood which gives the names of the first families to move into the town.

(Wikipedia)

The cigar is a huge 31 metre (102 ft) high replica of Winston Churchill's cigar (known locally as "the big cigar"), unveiled in 1967. Originally five of these were going to be built around the town, but only one was ever completed.

It has not been without controversy as the 'cigar' was built early in the town's history when many basic facilities were not present.

Please use the ample parking available within the shopping centre and take the short walk to GZ. Parking at the cache site is not recommended.
