Schooling in the Gurrundah area had a bit of chequered history with the rise and fall of school aged children. The school was previously located elsewhere in Gurrundah but closed due to insufficient facilities and low attendance. My research suggests that the school at this location opened at the beginning of the 1939 school year. The Department of Instruction supported the opening of the school as they had been assured that there were 15 "juveniles" in the area that would attend. A condition of allocating a teacher to the school was that an average minimum of 9 students had to attend.

A classroom size of 15 students - Wow!
