The Gunlogson Nature Preserve is North Dakota's first dedicated state nature preserve. In 1963, these 200 acres of lowland woods were donated by G.B. Gunlogson and is home to many different species of plants and animals, including the Showy Lady's Slipper. The bridge within the nature preserve crosses the Tongue River and provides an excellent spot for observing nature. The rest of the preserve can be accessed via the three miles of well maintained hiking trails.
Parking is available at the Pioneer Heritage Center. To access the park and the geocache, a daily pass, annual pass, or NENDHA membership is required. Icelandic State Park is located 5 1/2 miles west of Cavalier and passes are available for purchase upon entry. For more information or to make a reservation, please visit www.parkrec.nd.gov.
