Geocache Description:

This series runs along the Glacial Lakes State Trail from Willmar to Hawick, MN. It is a black top trail for easy biking and walking. The first set of caches from Willmar to Spicer, MN focuses on a term related to geologic periods or the landforms and waterways created by the glaciers.

The entire trail lies within the Alexandria Glacial Moraine Complex laid down by the Wadena Lobe of the last glacier over 30,000 years ago. The rough, hummocky surface gives this area its distinct hill and lake appearance. Some of the finest examples of “kame and kettle” glacial topography in the upper Midwest can be found here.

Middle Precambrian- This time period during the middle of the Cambrian period over 460 billion years ago is attributed to an explosion of marine life. Also, the iron ore deposits of Minnesota’s Iron range were deposited during this time.
