From its source to its mouth, the Mersey River flows through varied topography, rich agricultural land and many interesting centres of population. The Meandering the Mersey (MTM) series will follow, as much as pracitcal, the course of the Mersey River with caches being placed at varying intervals. We trust you will enjoy the area.
Bells Parade is the jewel in the Latrobe Municipality. It is a wonderful location where individuals or family groups can swim, fish, use the play equipment and enjoy the many walking paths. It is also the venue for numerous community events and has been for over a century.
Just upstream from Bells Parade the Mersey River splits into a number of channels with Bells Parade on the banks of one of the main channels. The north west end of this channel has a weir which maintains consistent water levels at Bells Parade at all times. There are numerous islands in the area and many tidal creeks. North west of Bells Parade, the various channels rejoin to form the Mersey river back into a single channel. In some ways, the area is reminiscent of a delta except that it is not located at the mouth of the river.
The area is flood prone and any cache at ground level has a short lifetime. So this cache is a 200mL sistema which should survive minor floods and be threatened in times of major floods. Enjoy the hunt as you explore the area.
