Geocache Description:

Located near the eastern “end” of the CandI portion of the Ghost Town Trail that was opened in the fall of 2017. This 8-mile section begins at Vic Miller Road, just north of US 422, and extends to North Street, off Expedite Road. This trail is in the process of being extended to form the first looping rail-trail in the country.

The cache highlights a pair of railroad bridges with innovative trail conversion construction that uses plastic from Bedford Reinforced Plastics for the bridge decking and railings. The bridges were dedicated in the name of Carson Kitner, son of Cliff and Karla Kitner.

This rail line was part of the Cambria and Indiana Railroad, which was in operation from 1904 until 1994. The abandoned C and I railroad corridor was donated to the Cambria County Conservation & Recreation Authority in 1995. The Rexis Branch of the Ghost Town Trail and the new trail spur at Revloc were also part of this railroad. C&I became the "richest railroad in the country", generating the most revenue per mile of track, during the 1930s and 1940s.

The cache can be reached from the North Street Trailhead or from the Vic Miller Road Trailhead.

Point of Interest is ADA accessible. Cache retrieval will require assistance.

This is Featured Cache #26 of the Cambria TRAILS Geotrail, which highlights the diverse TRAIL amenities of the area. Be sure to collect and record the Code Word from in (or near, in the case of micros) the cache to your official Passport, which can be obtained from the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. A map and list of all caches featured in the Geotrail can be found at the Geotrail page, (visit link) .

Attendees of the Geotrail launch event were given the advanced release of this cache listing, so the FTF is probably already entered in the logbook.
