Geocache Description:

This is a generic description for the 'Lizard Loop' series which encircles Goonhilly Downs with it's Satellite Earth Station, Wind-Farm complex and Bonython Gardens. The series augments many other geocaches placed along the route. The first cache in the series is 'Lizard Loop 1' and is placed in Friars Lane which connects the Helston to Lizard Road (A3083) to the Goonhilly to Kuggar Road. For ease of parking, we recommend that you start at this cache and proceed numerically in an anti-clockwise direction. However, being a circular series, you can start and finish where you wish. The total circuit is some 11 1/2 miles following main roads, a minor road and country lanes. A couple of caches are a short distance away on side roads. The series is designed mainly as 'cache and dash' for cars or bikes as the main roads could be dangerous for pedestrians due to the speed of traffic. All the 'Lizard Loop' series caches are placed on public land and close to safe parking areas and lay-bys. As far as possible, they have been placed away from prickly or stinging plants but one or two may be close (or in) the dreaded ivy. There are no muddy paths to negotiate! Hopefully the various hints will assist your search(es). Many of the caches are similar so you may have an idea of what your searching for. At 'Lizard Loop 6' you will be overlooked by the huge Antenna One (dubbed "Arthur"), which was built in 1962 to link with Telstar. It was the first open parabolic design and is 25.9 metres (85 feet) in diameter and weighs 1,118 tonnes. At 'Lizard Loop 15' you will have a good view of the Wind-Farm on Goonhilly Downs which was commissioned in 2010 and now has a capacity of some 12,000 KW. 'Lizard Loop 18' is placed at the entrance to Bonython Gardens which are open to the public from mid-April until mid September. Most of the caches in this series are film container size, or smaller, so please have pen / pencil / tweezers available. Only ' Lizard Loop 18' cache in this series has room for swaps, TB's etc.
