Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the Rockefeller State Park Preserve 2018 Winter Series.

From their inclusion in Washington Irving's "Legend of Sleepy Hollow;" to the construction of Rockefeller's carriage roads, the landscapes around these carriage roads have been an important part of NY's history.

The trails were built by John D. Rockefeller Sr. and Jr., and inspired by the work of Frederick Law Olmsted.  Olmsted had visions of connecting city-folk to the outdoors.  He envisioned a society in which people were dedicated to their communities and would find tranquility and inspiration in spaces like Rockefeller State Park Preserve.

The roads are constructed with 3 layers of crushed stone in descending sizes to expedite drainage.  The eight-inch crown in the middle and extensive drainage system are designed to ensure mud and puddles are kept off the carriage roads.

Today, the historical integrity of the carriage road system is upheld by The Preserve's maintenance crew.  Carriage drivers and horse-riders come from all over to experience the landscapes brought to us by the Rockefeller family and Olmsted.

Bring a pen and tweezers. You are looking for a camo micro bison tube.
