Geocache Description:

The village of West Hallam is, today, pretty much one large modern housing estate.

But it is an ancient village, having been listed in the Domesday Book of 1086.

It stayed small for centuries, the population in 1831 being just 710 people (it is now around 4300 people).

Despite its small size, West Hallam was at the forefront of educational provision in the area – by the middle of the nineteenth century it had a boys’ and a girls’ school, years before education became compulsory. This was mainly due to a charity set up in the seventeenth century by the former rector of the parish church

The Village Hall (not to be confused with the modern Community Centre) is the old girls' school – it is an attractive Grade 2 listed building. Fifty metres away, you can also see the older boys’ school, now private housing, which dates back to 1832.

To find this cache, you must visit this location and take a good look round. Once you have found the answers, you will need to take a short walk (less than half a mile) out of the village – the path can get muddy at times.

The cache is a fairly small "small" - room for a travel bug tag, and the log, but not a lot else. Please bring your own pen(cil)

The cache can be found at: N 52 58.ABC W 001 21.DEF
