The Bouma Cycle is named after "Arnold H. Bouma 1932-2011"

He described a set of sedimentary structure in Turbidite beds deposited at the bottoms of lakes, oceans and rivers. The processes are as the material is carried down a slope or river the heaver flows allows for movement of larger material or rocks to move, as it slows it gets deposited. In slower movements other finer grained sands/mudstones/rocks get deposited then even finer silts, then mud at the end.

In this example you'll have to look close at the layers to see the cycle, the Conglomerate's sometimes are very small in some layers.

In a cycle you will see another set of bigger rocks or a conglomerate layer start again this cycle sometimes repeats itself over and over. This is a very big change and you're able to see this at some distance. The different layers at this site are well marked by their various colors and your able to see some very dark layers in-between the lighter more tan/sand colored ones. What do you suppose these very dark layers are?
