Merlin and Arthur set out on a new adventure. Saying goodbye to Camelot, they embarked on a voyage across a starlit ocean. As they sailed, Arthur remembered all his adventures and the friends he had met along the way. Leaving was hard, for sometimes forever is a very long time.
The sea lay quiet as they sailed through an endless night. Looking deep beneath the waves, they could see a mercastle glowing turquoise against the dark blue waters. Tall pinnacles reached above the palace and if you looked closely, you could see the merpeople swimming among the arches of the courtyard. As they watched, a spout of water shot up from the ocean and a great leviathan broke the surface. Resting by their small sail boat, the ancient creature eyed Merlin and Arthur with a curious gaze. Merlin smiled at him and patting the creature's head, he whispered, "hello old friend."
Arthur felt a peace which he could not describe. Never before had he encountered a place that felt so foreign but also so beautiful, exotic, and captivating.
Merlin stood up with his arms raised high to the sky. A light poured from his hands, swirling and taking shape with the stars. The whole sky glowed above them with his magic. Merlin and Arthur looked on as the events of their lives played out; the memories of all they had seen and done danced brightly across the heavens. As the scene continued, they saw new memories too; things they had always wished for deep down that never came true. After the spell ended, the light faded and the ocean was very still. It was Merlin's final spell. With his wand back at Camelot, his powers were beginning to fade.
Merlin spoke softly, "a true wish comes not from the things we hope for but from the quiet stillness that remains once wishing is no more."
Back at Camelot, the knights of the round table climbed to the high reaches of the castle. To the top of Merlin's tower they ascended. Entering his study, they saw a wooden desk, a telescope pointed out the window to the North, and a small wizard's cauldron laying nearby. On top of the desk were several books and a map. Three pages of parchment stuck out from one of the books. The top page was labeled, The Last Enchantment. A red seal glowed brightly on the final page. Looking closely at the parchment, the knights recognized Merlin's writing:
