Geocache Description:

A tribute to Louden Ditch

This is Eloïse's first geocache hide!  It's named after the ditch that flows past this point.  In 1888, Aaron Benson began to dig the Louden Ditch to provide water to nearby farmland.  It diverts water from the Big Thompson River 6 miles upstream at the mouth of the Big Thompson Canyon, passing through a couple tunnels along the way, including at Devils Backbone.  From this cache, it continues another 18 miles through north Loveland to where it ends in west Windsor, with whatever remaining water pouring into a drainage that flows into the Cache la Poudre River.  It loses 180 feet in elevation along its length.

The cache is a small pill bottle: too small for any pencil I own, so please bring your own to sign.  Once done signing, please replace the cache in such a way so you can be sure it won't fall out.
