Geocache Description:

Cole Lumbus offers a friendly face to all who visit him in the heart of Columbus, North Carolina.

Columbus, North Carolina is the county seat of Polk County, carved out of the wilderness of Henderson and Rutherford Counties in 1855. We are named after a North Carolina Senator who persisted after a failed attempt in 1847 to form this county: Dr. Columbus Mills. So, we may be the only one of the 23 Columbus-es in the USA NOT named after Christopher Columbus (who sailed the ocean blue in 1492...).

This Geocache is named after our wood-spirit named, appropriately so, Cole Lumbus. Cole's birthdate is the same as the date his namesake Columbus was founded, February 2nd. He resides (quite permanently) at 173 East Mills Street. Cole's "roots" sprang from the paulownia tree, thus his parents given names are Paul and Lonia. All wood-spirits have to have a favorite song. Cole's "Taking care of Business" from 1974, speaks to his sponsorship by the Discover Columbus Committee - a small group of like-minded Columbus enthusiasts bent on promoting our small town quality of life to visitors, businesses, and residents alike.

When you visit this cache Cole would appreciate having a selfie with you posted for this hide. Of course, the selfie for my family album is OPTIONAL Thank you, and enjoy your visit!

And the FTF prize goes to...archsmooth. Congrats from Cole Lumbus!
