Corinth, Mississippi was officially settled in 1855, and by 1858 the Memphis & Charleston and Mobile & Ohio railroad lines were in operation in Corinth. For six months in 1862, this crucial railroad junction made Corinth second only to Richmond in importance for Civil War planning and strategy. The first depot was burned by the Confederacy in 1862 and replaced several times.**
The present structure is the third depot to be constructed on the site. It was built in craftsman style circa 1918. It is an unusual depot because it is built at a right angle and faces into the railroad intersection, the only V-plan in the state. Passengers, that arrived for departure, entered the depot on the opposite side of the building, in the crook of the V. During the 1930’s and 1940’s, thirty passenger trains stopped in Corinth each day. In 2007, the depot became the home for the Corinth Crossroads Museum with displays of civil war artifacts, historic photographs, industrial items, and railroad souvenirs.
