Geocache Description:

Tyneham Time Trail Virtual Reward - 2017/2018 **EDIT 19/5/2022** We are aware that some of the locations were inaccessible for a period of time, however the information required for each stage has been moved from inside the houses to the wooden barriers surrounding them. The information boards can clearly be seen and answers easily retrieved. Please do not cross the barriers or fences, they are there for your safety and to preserve the village. Tyneham is a ghost village, a place lost in time. We'd like to show you one of our favourite places to visit. This cache will guide you around the village, and along the way you will find the answers needed for the 7 questions to claim the cache. Tyneham was once a thriving village, until 1943, when the War office (now the MOD), requisitioned the land. This measure was initially meant to be temporary, but in 1948 compulsory purchase orders were made; the land and the village remained part of the firing ranges. The MOD gives access to the village, the Lulworth Range walks and various beaches on certain days and weekends during the year. Please check here ( www.tynehamopc.org.uk) before planning your visit to avoid any disappointment. The village is as it was left in 1943, some houses and cottages are ruins (from the firing and dear old Mother Nature), but the church and school remain beautifully preserved. There are clear paths around the village, and this cache can be tackled in any order, feel free to explore as you choose. There are toilets over in the farm, and plenty of picnic tables/places if the weather is nice. We highly recommend following the path through the Woodland Nature Walk towards Worbarrow bay, and the beach itself. Photos of your visit would be lovely to accompany your log, answers must be sent to the CO otherwise your log will be deleted, no spoiler photos. To claim the cache you must answer the following questions: Question 1: Inside the church is a plaque commemorating those lost in The Great War. What is the combined age of these 6 men? Question 2: In the school, what is displayed on Arthur Pritchard's peg hook? Question 3: At the Rectory who aged 94, revisited their old home? Question 4: In Laundry Cottages what was the name of Tyneham's 'Odd man'? Question 5: Gwyle Cottages was the home to the Wellmans and then the Grants. What 'name' is given to Alice's father? Question 6: Who is sat in the postman's sidecar? Question 7: The farm has recently been preserved and a beautiful cottage garden created. There are 3 benches, what is inscribed on each of them? This Virtual Cache is part of a limited release of Virtuals created between August 24, 2017 and August 24, 2018. Only 4,000 cache owners were given the opportunity to hide a Virtual Cache.
