Geocache Description:

Cache # 359.

This cemetery has me a little confused - the residents here are facing either East or West.  Maybe it is the Irish in them, being a little bit different.

There are the usual sad, tragic and interesting headstones that we see in all sections of old cemeteries, mining and other work accidents and many young deaths, often in one family.

On a foggy morning I strolled around and picked out a few of the interesting ones that caught my eye.  In order to reach GZ you will need to answer some simple questions at each stage.

The Starting Point - WP1 - Ornate Metal Cross
S37 11.329 E145 42.071
This ornate metal cross drew my attention so I thought it would make an interesting start to a stroll around the cemetery.
How many letters in the surname on the cross?  A =

WP2 - Herbert
S37 11.398 E145 42.031
I presume this was the timber tramline into the forest and the headstone has fallen over but I am sure there is a tragic story attached to this one.
Walter was killed on which tramline?  B =
The accident happened on ?5th September 1915.  C =

WP3 - Kingsford
S37 11.398 E145 42.038
Sometimes it is just an odd name that catches my attention and this one is certainly an unusual one.
How many letters in his first name? D =

WP4 - Royston
S37 11.390 E145 42.048
We noticed this small granite block as we walked around.   We noted the name Royston and that there is a range of that name in the area.  We then noted that there was a plaque on top telling us about the history of the block and that it was excavated in 1971 at Mawson during construction of an underground cosmic radiation laboratory.
As this was a long time after Mr Royston's death I wonder how it came to be here.
He was born in Canada in 186? E =
He died in a mining accident in 190? F =

WP5 - Ferguson
S37 11.375 E145 42.067
The extremely old fence posts with some ornate carvings caught my attention as we continued our walk.  This must have been a very stylish edging around the grave many years ago.  It is certainly not something I have seen before.  Many years and the weather seem to have taken their toll on the timber carvings.
Mary Ann died at Acheron in 189?  G =
John Robert was born in 185? H =
John died on ?April  1936  J =

I hope you have enjoyed your stroll around this historic cemetery.

Now that you have answered the questions you will need to use the following formula to work out GZ.

S37 J(A-B).(H-C)(B-D)(E-H)    E145 F(G-J).(D-B)(H-C)(E-A)

You are now seeking a fruit container with log book, pencil and some SWAG.

No signature and your on-line log will be deleted.
