Geocache Description:

Cache # 358.

This headstone has been placed by their loving family as a Tribute to Courage and Strength. After a tumultuous and difficult start to their lives, they managed to come to Australia and finally settled in Alexandra. Their story reinforces once again how lucky we are to live in this country.

Alexander's family fled east from the German Army in 1914.  They moved across Russia during war and revolution and ended up in Siberia before returning to the new Poland.  After graduating from the SREM Military Academy in Poland, Alexander was captured in 1939 and interned in Germany.

Leokadia was born and raised on a farm near Lvov.  She was transported in 1942 from Poland to a German Forced Labour Camp.  She endured 4 years of hard labour, starvation and bombing in the Zeppelin Aircraft Factory at Friedrichshafen.
