Geocache Description:

This Treerific Geocache Series highlights London's trees and forest ecosystems! The Shagbark Hickory (Carya ovata) is one of the two most commons hickory species in Canada, and they are radical, man! Their groovy name comes from the noticeably loose or ‘shaggy’ bark, barring some resemblance to the iconic shag carpets of the 60s. These far-out trees are unmatched for their strong wood which is used for products such as sporting equipment and tool handles; the best quality hickory wood around. Squirrels have a blast in these trees, as they are the main source of edible hickory nuts. Groovy! Don't forget to CITO!
