As we were setting these caches the fields were full of rape seed - fields of gold indeed ( although not barley!) and very appropriately sung by STING because the nettles, thistles and brambles are verdant, thriving and lethal! Sturdy shoes and covered legs and arms are a good idea!
Just for something different, and to celebrate the abundance of rape seed oil produced by our wonderful farmers, here is a family recipe for the easiest delicious salad dressing ever.
Take a clean jam jar (or bottle) with a tight screw lid and pour 4fl oz rape seed oil, 1fl oz of balsamic (or white wine vinegar or lemon juice)vinegar, 1 tsp of dijon mustard, pinch of salt and pepper, 1 crushed garlic clove if you like it. Put the lid on and shake..... a lot! Taste and adjust seasoning. This will keep for a week in the fridge.
