Geocache Description:

In the Greek city, the agorà was the place used for public meetings and occupied a central site usually left free of buildings, at the junction of the principal roads. In antiquity public activities were usually conducted in the open or inside structures build using perishable materials: tents, wooden buildings, or temporary timber constructions set up around a central area. Over time, various types of buildings used for the city’s political affairs were erected in or around the main square: the bouleuterion for meetings of the governing council (boulé), the ekklesiasterion for gatherings of the citizens’ general assembly, and the prytaneion, seat of the prytaneis, the officials appointed to preside over the boulé and the ekklesia.
The agora of Agrigento, which was in use from the 6th century BC until Roman times is situated on the hill of the San Nicola area .
