The Edinburgh and District Water Trust were responsible for laying the water pipeline which this aqueduct carries to bring water from Talla Reservoir to Edinburgh. It was completed in 1905, is over 23 miles long and the water flows purely by gravity. The supply of water was later augmented by water from Talla Resrvoir and, more recently, from Megget Reservoir.
The cache is placed with the kind permission of Sir Robert Clerk and the assistance of the Penicuik Estate Ranger Service.
The cache is a small lock & lock plastic box and contains a logbook, pen and pencil. There is room for small trackables and |Geocoins. Please replace as found
Please note that Carlops Road, the A766, is a fast road and crossing it should only be done where there is a clear view in each direction. The cache may also be approached from Rullion Road in the Cornbank estate. Congratulations to Gilkerscleuch Cachers for getting going so early.
